There’s no business like show business! Learn everything you need to know to audition for a show. Students will learn practical skills and build self-esteem for a singing and dance audition. Camp ends with a mock audition in front of professionals in the business. This is perfect for students who plan to audition for their high school or community theaters. POINTE PREPARATION

This workshop is designed for students who will progress to pointe work during the 2024-2025 school year. Qualified students will have at least two years of technique only classes (2-3 classes @ 1.5hr per week). Ballet technique, basic pointe/foot strengthening exercises, and proper foot care will be included. Classical attire required. ASSISTANT TEACHER WORKSHOP

Students will learn the teaching methods used at YDE for our combination classes. Topics covered include studio operations, how to assist in a dance class, and equipment operations. Some homework and outside preparation are required for this workshop. Enrollment as a student at YDE and a commitment to assistant teach at least 1 hr/week during the 2024/2025 school year is required.
REPERTOIRE PREP WORKSHOP

For current YDE dancers or those transferring into YDE from another studio. This three-day workshop will inform, prepare, and empower students interested in the YDE REPERTOIRE program. Dancers will participate in selected ballet, jazz, modern, tap and musical theater classes. They will learn how to be engaged, take/apply corrections, and present a physical and emotional readiness for class and rehearsal. A letter to the Director explaining REP readiness is required to be considered for this program.
CREATIVE MOVEMENT/PRE-K Dancers new to dance and YDE (recommended ages 3-4) Join us every week for an hour of FUN! We will explore movement in a whole new way using props, imagery, and wonderful music! We will challenge your child’s creativity while learning basic locomotor movements, rhythms, and patterns. Ballet & Tap shoes are required for this class.
MOVE IT! (recommended ages 4-10) This is a great opportunity for youth to get up and move! Class focus is on stretching, basic jazz & ballet technique, and large movements (locomotion patterns, jumps, & leaps). This is the perfect class for those with no previous dance training. BASIC SKILLS I (recommended ages 5-7) For new/current students who love to dance. Learn foundations of ballet, tap and jazz technique all in a fun and fast paced environment. This is the perfect class for those who need to brush up their skills for fall placement. BASIC SKILLS II (recommended ages 8-12) For new/current students who love to dance and have previous dance experience. We will build on foundations of ballet, tap and jazz technique all in a fun and fast paced environment.
BALLET I (recommended ages 8-14) This class is for dancers who are new to classical training. This class will introduce the foundation of ballet. Elementary ballet skills will be introduced including barre, center, and grand allegro work. Dancers will learn posture, grace, and discipline in the Royal Academy of Ballet and Vaganova tradition.
BALLET II (recommended ages 9 and up) For students with at least one to two years of ballet training. Proper technical development will be covered at the barre, in center work, and movement across the floor. Class emphasis on placement, turnout, and upper body movement.
BALLET II/III (class placement by instructor invitation) For students with at least three years of ballet study. This class provides an intensity of barre and center to develop and challenge the dancer. Advanced work in adagio and allegro are primary focus. Pre-Pointe/Pointe technique is included in this class.
BALLET IV/V (class placement by instructor invitation) For students with an understanding of the classical vocabulary, attention to artistry in movement and technical skill. This class provides an intensity of barre and center to develop and challenge the dancer. Advanced work in adagio and allegro are primary focus. Pointe technique is included in this class.
OPEN BALLET(class placement by instructor invitation) For students in Level III-V. For students with an understanding of the classical vocabulary, attention to artistry in movement and technical skill. This class provides an intensity of barre and center to develop and challenge the dancer.
BEG & INT POINTE(class placement by instructor invitation) For students who are currently working on their shoes. Class focus is on technical development and fluidity using combinations to strengthen the legs, feet, and ankles to prepare students for pointe work. Each class includes barre exercises, center floor work and across the floor combinations.
TEEN MODERN/LYRICAL (recommended ages 13-18) Dancers will learn basic skills in the modern and lyrical style. Class will incorporate technique development, combinations across the floor and in center, and improvisation. This class is perfect for those who have participated in Modern Dance Project. TAP/JAZZ I (recommended ages 8-14) This class is for dancers with little to no previous dance experience. This is an energetic and fun class to introduce students to jazz and tap dance. Jazz training includes strength, flexibility and conditioning technique, and progressions including turns, kicks, and leaps. Tap training focuses on rhythm, technique, sound quality, and tap vocabulary.
JAZZ II(recommended ages 8-12) Must have previous jazz experience. Dancers will improve upon basic technique, turns and leaps, and movements across the floor. Emphasis will be on flexibility, technique, and use of energy. A perfect class for drop in as new combinations will be studied each week. JAZZ III/IV(class placement by instructor invitation) Advanced technique, challenging combinations, stretches and emphasis on individual technical growth will be covered. A perfect class for drop in as new combinations will be studied each week. New students must have instructor’s permission to attend this class. STRENGTH TRAINING (recommended ages 8 and up) Class will focus on training muscle groups used in correct dance technique. Students will learn injury prevention and how to balance strength and flexibility. This class is great for students participating on dance teams. TAP II (class placement by instructor invitation) Class will work with new tap techniques and build on current skills. Focus is on control of the knee and ankles, purity of sound, and rhythm exploration. New students must have instructor’s permission to attend this class.
TAP III/IV(class placement by instructor invitation) Class will build on current skills and tricks and develop proper advanced technique, producing clear tap sounds, and speed of motion. As student’s progress through each level skills will become increasingly more complex and intricate.
MUSICAL THEATER I(recommended ages 6-10) A fun way to introduce dancers to the world of musical theater. Students will learn basic musical theater skills based in ballet and jazz movement. Students are encouraged to attend Musical Theater Prep.
MUSICAL THEATER II/III(recommended ages 10-16- class placement by instructor invitation) Building on skills from MT I, students will learn dance technique in theater jazz, tap, and basic ballet incorporating all movement from Broadway shows. Students will gain strength, stamina, balance, and the needed skills to stand center stage. Students are encouraged to attend Musical Theater Prep.
SUMMER REPERTOIRE -JUNIOR & SENIOR HIGH LEVELS(Placement by invitation only) Learn new works in ballet, jazz and/or musical theater through our Choreographer’s Initiative program that invites current staff, emerging and established guest choreographers from our community. Participation in this program requires a commitment to rehearse and perform all choreography from 6/1/2024-5/30/2025. Selected pieces will be presented at Winterfest, outside performances, and the 2025 Spring Concerts. Members are also invited to participate in the annual Nutcracker Story performances Dec 1-15th. Class may include additional hours outside of scheduled time that are agreed upon by director/choreographer and students. Dancers must be enrolled in two ballet technique classes and commit to repertoire class during this summer session and the 2024-2025 season. Repertoire parents will commit to a minimum of 10 hours of volunteer work during the 2024-2025 season, as assigned by the directors. Then you may be interested in an OPEN CLASS CARD. With this card, you may take any class (as long as it is at your technical level) at any time. Need based scholarships are awarded at the sole discretion of Youth Dance Ensemble and require a letter of application. Scholarships are awarded for the school year and summer programming.
