NEW! JAZZ: IN THE STYLE OF SWING Join Bekah Gudim for a swing-style Jazz workshop that incorporates swing moves and techniques from East and West Coast Swing and variations on the Charleston, set to big band music from the 1930’s. No need for a partner, this jazz workshop adapts social dancing into choreography for the adv beg dancer. Dancers will learn fast footwork and high energy choreography. Previous dance experience is helpful but not required.

POINTE PREPARATION This workshop is designed for students who will progress to pointe work during the 2019/2020 school year. Qualified students will have at least two years of technique only classes (2-3 classes @ 1.5hr per week). Ballet technique, basic pointe/foot strengthening exercises and proper foot care will be included. Classical attire required.

REPERTOIRE PREP WORKSHOP For current YDE dancers or those transferring into YDE from another studio. This three day workshop will inform, prepare, and empower students interested in the YDE REPERTOIRE program. Dancers will participate in ballet, jazz, modern, tap and musical theater classes. They will learn how to be engaged, take/apply corrections, and present a physical and emotional readiness for class and rehearsal. A letter to the Director explaining REP readiness is required to be considered for this program.

AUDITION PREP This workshop will empower students, who want to audition for area theater performances, with confidence by strengthening techniques in acting, dancing and singing. Participants will create their own resume, learn performance readiness skills, and understand the process of a musical theatre audition. They will learn how to take direction, connect with material, and how to quickly learn dance combinations. A mock audition will take place at the end of the workshop where students will receive feedback on their audition. Dance experience helpful but not required.

NEW! NUTCRACKER WORKSHOP Dancers will have the opportunity to learn and master new roles from YDE's annual NUTCRACKER EVENT. Repertoire will include: Clara, Fritz, Children, Maids, Dolls and Rats in ACT I, Angels, Chinese, Mother Ginger, and Waltz of the Flowers in ACT II. We will also discover the rich history of this ballet and Tchaikovsky's ageless score. Please note that students participating in this workshop are NOT guaranteed parts but will receive first consideration for placement at the audition for the upcoming season.

With this card, you may take any class (as long as it is at your technical level) at any time. Just prepay for the card of your choice and come dance when you can. Please check the white board for weekly changes in the class schedule.
CREATIVE MOVEMENT PRE-K/K Dancers new to dance and YDE (recommended ages 3-5) Join us every week for an hour of FUN! We will explore movement in a whole new way using props, images, and wonderful music! We will challenge your child’s creativity while learning basic locomotor movements, rhythms, and patterns. Ballet & Tap shoes are required for this class. NOTE: This is a 45 minute class. Fee for class is based on $10.50/class or $73.50/Session
BASIC SKILLS I Dancers new to dance and YDE (recommended ages 5-8) For new/current students who love to dance. Learn foundations of ballet, tap, and jazz technique all in a fun and fast paced environment. This is the perfect class for those who need to brush up their skills for fall placement.
BASIC SKILLS MT-Musical Theater (recommended ages 8-12 ) This is a “must have” class for students who participate in musical theater at school or in the Community. Students will learn basic musical theater skills in tap, ballet and jazz movement. Class will also emphasize flexibility, placement, and performance quality.
BALLET I (recommended ages 9 and up) For students with little or no previous ballet training. This class will introduce the foundation of ballet. Class emphasis on placement, turnout and strength development will be covered at the barre, in center work, and movement across the floor.
BALLET II/III (recommended ages 10-13) For students with at least two years of ballet training. Primary focus is barre/center work, increased flexibility, foot strengthening/development, and upper body grace. Pointe and pre-pointe technique will be included in this class. *Participation in pointe technique is by invitation only.
BALLET IV (placement based on technical level) This class provides an intensity of barre and center to develop and challenge the dancer. Advanced work in adagio and allegro are primary focus. Pointe technique is included in this class. Instructor permission required to participate in this class.
OPEN BALLET (for ballet students level II and above) Dancers will work at their level under the watchful eyes of our instructors. Work in adagio and allegro are primary focus. Upper level students may wear their pointe shoes.
JAZZ I (recommended ages 8-12) Come join the fun as we explore jazz dance in its forms. Dancers will learn basic technique, turns and leaps, and movements across the floor. This is a fast paced and energetic class.
JAZZ II/III (recommended ages 8-12) Must have completed Jazz I/II. Emphasis will be on flexibility, technique, and use of energy. A perfect class for drop in as new combinations will be studied each week. JAZZ III (class placement by instructor invitation) New techniques, challenging combinations, and the latest trends will be covered in this class. A perfect class for drop in as new combinations will be studied each week.
JAZZ IV/V (class placement by instructor invitation) Advanced technique, challenging combinations, stretches and emphasis on individual technical growth will be covered. A perfect class for drop in as new combinations will be studied each week. New students must have instructor’s permission to attend this class. ADV BEG TAP (must have completed one year of tap technique) This class is designed for students who want to improve upon and further develop skills in this tap. Class focus on rhythm, technique, sound quality, and vocabulary.
BEG INT TAP (class placement by instructor invitation) Class focus is speed, clarity, and dynamics of sound while exploring new steps and tap vocabulary. New students must have instructor’s permission to attend this class.
INT TAP (class placement by instructor invitation) Class will work with new techniques and build on current skills. This is a perfect class for those who love to explore rhythms and wish to increase their technique. New students must have instructor’s permission to attend this class.
ASCEND - 5TH GRADE AND UP (placement determined by Director Learn new works in ballet, jazz and/or musical theater by current staff and 2 guest choreographers. Selected pieces will be presented at WINTERFEST, special performances and the 2020 SPRING CONCERTS. Class will include additional hours outside of scheduled time that are agreed upon by director/choreographer and students. The mission of the Youth Dance Ensemble is to enrich the residents of the Twin Cities and surrounding area by providing an environment of dance training and performance with emphasis on artistic, technical, and creative content all presented in a fun and energetic setting. The school of Youth Dance Ensemble will offer preprofessional training for the serious student as well as classes for the avocational and young dancer. The Repertoire Ensemble, a company of young artists, will inspire the general public to better understand and appreciate dance in its many forms, to preserve and promote the art of ballet and related cultural traditions.
